Kaikoura

Easter Monday in Kaikoura was just glorious - hardly a cloud in the sky all day. After a quiet morning in our unit followed by lunch on the terrace outside the unit, we spent the afternoon walking around the end of the Kaikoura peninsula (at low tide). As usual, there were fur seals everywhere, hauled out for the day and resting before the night's fishing. In one of the many small bays, the very shallow clear water was full of shoals of tiny fish (just a couple of inches long); at times they leapt out of the water, which almost seemed to fizz. We met a German couple and Chris took their photo - later, after walking round the peninsula to the Pier Hotel we met the same couple again. After again taking their photo, they gave us a very nice Germany/New Zealand lapel pin. New Zealand is a lovely place ...
